Could this be my m air flow sensor please help!?

Hi my fellow mechanics.. I have a 2004 vw jetta. Everytime the car is cold and I go to start it it has trouble. It will start, then die. So I turn the key off, let it sit for a min, then try again and it does the same thing. I have to so this about 3 tines before it starts. Ok once it's running the gas goes very fast. And the car feels kinda jerky the whole time, kinda like ita trying hard to stay on. I ordered a m airflow sensor because that's what my mechanic friend said it sounded like but I'd like other opinions. Thank you
