Which experiences the greater buoyant force?

By definition the bouyant force is equal to the weight of the water displaced. To a good approximation the iron and air both displace the same amount of water and therefore have the same bouyant force. Of course the iron sinks and air rises but that is because of the difference between the bouyant force and the weight of the stuff displacing the water.
