Who (aside from the Mayans) predicted something would happen on Dec. 21 2012?

Personally I think its all crap...how could a planet 6.4 billion years old undergo a mive change in the course of a day...most scientific theories pertaining to 2012 are crap (Nibiru, pole shifts, ect)...religion is made by society and I personally am very devout...I just wanna know who else in history has put emphasis on this date (any other info related to Dec. 21 could be posted too :))
